At SBYMA we see and encourage musical potential in all children. We take the viewpoint that if given an opportunity to experience music in the proper environment and with the proper encouragement, all people can learn to appreciate and perform music.

 SBYMA was founded in the fall of 2007 by William Fiedtkou, SBYMA Director, in response to the stated desires of families of young musicians in the Santa Barbara area to expand the opportunities and develop the talents of their young musicians. We collaborate with other youth oriented organizations such as Santa Barbara High School, the Santa Barbara Youth Project, CALM, HEARTS Adaptive Riding and the Unity Shoppe.

The Purpose of the Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy is to provide a fun, hands-on experience with music that unites Santa Barbara youth from all cultures and backgrounds in an environment that will ignite a desire to learn. SBYMA provides a safe and energetic academic environment that provides childre n and young adults an environment that inspires them to explore their own musical ability through performance and practical music theory. We encourage every child to focus on their own value and untapped potential through music; for those kids that are willing, we absolutely prepare them with the skills they need to successfully pursue music in college and in life.

The Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy is financially supported by contributions, membership fees and grants. It is administered by the SBYMA Board of Directors, year round staff and a Parents Committee. Every parent isinvited to actively participate in SBYMA functions. The classroom fees cover only a small portion of our operating expenses, so fund raising is essential and parent participation is welcome.
